it's hard to start this motor up again.
having never been a consistent blogger (and having always disliked the word), i have to reteach myself every time i get the impulse or go on a trip. and here i am, on a trip, with an impulse. releasing myself from any strict rules or imagined bloggerific expectations, i am allowing this to be a quilt – little bits and pieces that want showing or telling. a pastiche. a smorgasbord.
please note: my brain is on fizzy. i am still experiencing only two settings - tired and wired.
we arrived at the hotel in Bengaluru (aka Bangalore) at 5:30am thursday local time. i slept hardly at all during the 19+ hour journey which was broken into two legs (ouch, broken legs 😳) - 10hrs from San Francisco to Frankfurt Germany where we got to walk around for a couple of hours and sample some seriously sub-par coffee. then 9hrs from Frankfurt to Bengaluru. the first flight was luxurious in many ways. among them, Andrew and i had three seats across to ourselves and the flight was relatively empty. airplane heaven...
by contrast, the second flight was airplane hell. booked to the gills, we experienced the full sardine can effect. it felt like the entire plane was breathing down my neck and any little move violated someone else's personal space. plus, the plane itself felt tired, as in older, as in not well maintained. several functions on my seat were broken, the viewing screens were tiny and unresponsive, and there were not one, not two, but three incredibly small children who had an unspoken agreement that one of them would always be screaming at the top of its little lungs.
arriving into India was complex and time-consuming. there were myriad lines and multiple forms that had to be delivered at various counters. as you may know, at 4am, every minute feels eternal. luckily our darling host had sent a car which was waiting for us when we finally broke free of the airport. also waiting, an extraordinary sunrise.
hello India...

That airplane flight to Bangalore sounds exhausting; the 32st century equivalent of riding on an overcrowded hay-wagon, almost. The hotel looks just as equally luxurious, tho. I hope the wedding went well. Welcome back to blogging! :)

ReplyDeleteBruce, thank you SO MUCH for showing up here and for braving the weirdness of this platform. The hotel was EXTRAORDINARY, beyond anything i'd ever experienced in terms of sheer LUXE!
